Welcome to Silver Spring’s December 2009 Newsletter

Happy Holidays!

Unbelievable!  We’re about to say “goodbye” to 2009 and enter a new decade!  Silver Spring is undergoing another facelift with the construction of the new Veteran’s Plaza and Civic Building.  In addition, the mosaic steps are being updated.

2010 will also be a good year for Silver Spring as a land deal has been reached for The Filmore Music Hall project and plans for the new Silver Spring Library are finalized.

Thank you for your support over the past 9 years and we look forward to continuing to serve Silver Spring in 2010!

Silver Spring Health:  Safe Toys & Gifts Month

Safe Toys & Gifts Month

To boost sales, retailers are already starting their holiday sales and specials.  But sometimes the best deal may not be the safest.  As shoppers begin to purchase toys and gifts for children, they need to mindful of what gift is the safest, especially for younger children.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there were an estimated 235,300 toy-related injuries treated in emergency rooms across the country.  Most of the injuries were to the head and face and consisted of lacerations, contusions or abrasions. And, 73 percent of the toy-related injuries reported were to children ages 14 and younger.
